Sydney and St Kilda have made a combined ten changes for their Sunday afternoon clash at the SCG, with big names back in the fold.
Plus, the besieged Lions have copped another blow, this time in the form of a hurt star, while a 658-day return awaits a cult favourite. See the sides for Round 13 below!

The Swans have welcomed back skipper Callum Mills and star ruckman Brodie Grundy in four changes, while the Saints will regain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and Liam Ryan, while Campbell Lake is set to debut.
Lake is into Ross Lyon’s side – which made six changes – just a week after joining Moorabbin in the midseason draft, while St Kilda also gets Mitch Owens back for the daunting fixture.
Essendon, meanwhile, has swung four changes from the side that lost to West Coast, with Mason Redman and Sam Durham back, while Harry Jones earns a reprieve.
Carlton made just one change amid its three-match winning streak, with Wade Derksen recalled for the injured Jacob Weitering, who has a minor calf strain.
Elsewhere, Brisbane has been dealt another sizeable injury blow ahead of its crucial clash against Gold Coast, with star midfielder Hugh McCluggage set for a stint on the sidelines.
McCluggage picked up a left calf strain at the Lions’ main training session, with the club revealing on Friday that the All-Australian midfielder is expected to miss four to five weeks.
McCluggage, who was confirmed as an out on Thursday night, joins core senior players Dayne Zorko, Oscar Allen, Jack Payne and Keiden Coleman on Brisbane’s injury list.
Meanwhile, Coleman Medal leader Jack Gunston won’t take to the field on Friday night against the Western Bulldogs, with the club opting against risking him before their mid-season bye next week.
Bodie Ryan comes in as his direct replacement as the only change for Sam Mitchell’s side, with Tom Barrass (hamstring) and Conor Nash (neck) unable to get up for the prime time clash.
At the Kennel, Cody Weightman returns for his first AFL game since the Bulldogs’ Elimination Final loss to the Hawks in 2024, after a luckless run with injury. Second-year player Lachie Jaques has been omitted in his place.
The in-form Finn O’Sullivan is the only forced change for Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos, with a mid-week concussion at training ruling him out for this weekend and next.
Former Blue Zac Fisher comes in as his replacement, having not appeared at the top level since Round 16 last year.
Meanwhile, Justin Longmuir’s Dockers will take three changes down to Bunbury with star Hayden Young headlines the inclusions.
He’s joined alongside Jaeger O’Meara and veteran swingman Oscar McDonald. Brennan Cox and Matt Johnson will miss with minor injuries, while SSP singing Chris Scerri has been omitted.
The cavalry has arrived for the second-placed Swans with Brodie Grundy and Callum Mills leading the list of five inclusions.
Lewis Melican (injury) and Tom Hanily are the confirmed outs for the clash with St Kilda.
The Saints meantime have swung the axe with Isaac Keeler, Jack Carroll and Liam Henry omitted for Sunday’s match at the SCG.
Sam Flanders also misses through injury as Ross Lyon tries to spark his side that has now won just one of their past four matches.
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera makes a welcome return as one of seven possible inclusions, alongside Liam Stocker, Mitch Owens and Liam Ryan.
The Bombers’ bid to get caretaker coach Dean Solomon his first win has received a boost with Mason Redman, Sam Durham and Harrison Jones all returning from injury.
Darcy Parish and Archer May miss the Sunday night clash with Carlton through injury.
The in-form Blues meantime have added Zac Williams, Cooper Lord and Will Derksen to their extended bench.
Collingwood will select mid-season draftee Mitch Podhajski for his AFL debut against Melbourne in the King’s Birthday clash.
Podhajski, 27, was taken by the Magpies with Pick 17 in last week’s rookie draft after a stellar few years in the VFL, including 28 goals in eight games for Coburg this year. He won the ‘Frosty’ Miller Medal for the VFL’s leading goalkicker last year with 54 goals.
The 191cm forward kicked two goals in his Magpies VFL debut last week, leading to his AFL selection for Monday’s game,
At Melbourne, coach Steven King said mid-season draftee Joel Fitzgerald had forced himself into selection calculations after a strong VFL showing for Casey.
Fitzgerald, on Casey debut after four-and-a-half outstanding VFL seasons with Essendon and Williamstown, dominated against the Giants, booting one goal from 40 disposals, 15 contested possessions, 12 clearances, nine inside 50s, six tackles and six marks.
It means the 22-year-old, who was selected by the Demons at Pick 16 in last week’s mid-season draft, is in line to make his AFL debut in Melbourne’s crunch King’s Birthday clash against Collingwood at the MCG.
“When anyone dishes up 39 disposals and 12 clearances, as a match committee, you’ve got to look at those numbers and think how would he stack up in our (AFL( team?” King said.
“He didn’t look out of place at all. Changing clubs, new teammates, different system, it clearly didn’t phase him.”
King said the Demons could also welcome back premiership defender Jake Lever, provided he got through training on Thursday.
The teams for their game will be confirmed on Sunday.
Gold Coast will unveil Jai Murray as a debutant for Saturday evening’s Q-Clash with Brisbane, having overcome injuries in his draft season to force his way into the senior side. Lachie Weller and Will Graham have also been recalled, in place of omitted trio Sam Clohesy, Nick Holman and Zeke Uwland.
The opposing Lions have also made a trio of changes, with McCluggage (calf) and Keidean Coleman (hamstring) the two forced changes alongside an omitted Cody Curtin. Darragh Joyce, James Tunstill and Shadeau Brain have been recalled, with the latter to play his first AFL game in 658 days.
Two-time Brisbane premiership hero Brandon Starcevich will make his club debut at West Coast on Saturday night, and becomes the eighth Eagle to debut in blue and gold this season after a cruel run with injury since arriving last October. Cooper Duff-Tytler is the hosts’ second inclusion, with Josh Lindsay and Jack Williams each making way.
Josh Carr has been a little more ruthless at selection with three changes for their trip west, dropping two-gamer Tom Anastasopoulos and mature-age recruit Jack Watkins alongside the injured Kane Farrell (adductor). Lachie Jones, Tom Cochrane and Jackson Mead return, with Jack Lukosius seemingly poised for a return from injury via the SANFL.
Adelaide named Hugo Hall-Kahan to make an almost immediate AFL debut on Thursday night.
Hall-Kahan was picked up after 18 months on the Sydney rookie list and then a stint in the VFL.
The Crows also regain Taylor Walker for Thursday night’s blockbuster against Geelong, but will be without gun forwards Izak Rankine (calf) and Riley Thilthorpe (suspension), plus star defender Mark Keane, who’s available but looks set to return through the SANFL.
Meanwhile, Geelong has axed the out-of-form Brad Close, who has been criticised for a defensive lapse with flow-on effects allowing Carlton’s Patrick Cripps to kick the game-winning goal last week.
Young ruckman Mitch Edwards has been managed with Chris Scott instead throwing Mark Blicavs into the ruck, while Lawson Humphries misses with an ankle injury.
“I’m not really sure (on Lawson), I’m not sure (the medical staff are) sure either, because he hasn’t done a whole lot post-game. They were pretty optimistic afterwards in the immediate aftermath,” Scott said of Humphries this week.
“When you think about that in the context of the way sometimes we proactively manage players who don’t have any glaring acute injury issue, then playing guys when they’re less than their best sounds a bit counter to what we’re trying to put in place.
“It puts a bit of doubt on Lawson, but it shouldn’t be construed as he couldn’t play. He could choose not to play, and it’s likely that, ‘Yeah, he could’ve, but we chose to prioritise optimisation.”
Jack Martin, Jack Bowes and Oli Wiltshire come into the side, with Bowes (three goals and 28 disposals) and Wiltshire (three goals) both excellent at VFL level recently.
