Analysis: Young dummy-half Josese Lanyon will make his second NRL start, replacing the injured Api Koroisau. Lanyon started at hooker on debut against the Titans in Round 15, playing 56 minutes in a 36-28 win. Since, he’s come off the bench in two Tigers losses. Latu Fainu will come off the pine. In a huge boost, Samuela Fainu returns from a lengthy injury layoff. The Tigers have missed him dearly. His inclusion means Tony Sukkar will likely start the game on the bench. Jarome Luai is back in the side after missing a week with a head knock which pushes Jock Madden onto the extended bench and unlikely to be utilised.

In a couple of huge inclusions, Noah Martin returns from injury as does Josh Papalii. Martin was in terrific form before suffering an ankle injury back in Round 8. Martin has been named to start while Papalii is set to come off the pine. The club’s two Origin stars in Ethan Strange and Hudson Young have been named in the starting side and unless injury strikes in the decider, those two will be pushing to play given Canberra’s finals hopes are on thin ice.

Analysis: The Roosters have named all but two of their Origin contingent in the starting line up. James Tedesco, Rob Toia and Mark Nawaqanitawase are likely to back up. Reece Robson and Sam Walker could very well play too being named on the extended bench, but it appears they may be less likely. If Walker doesn’t back up from the decider, Hugo Savala will start alongside Daly Cherry-Evans in the halves. Meanwhile, Connor Watson is set to start in Robson’s place. Salesi Foketi has been promoted into the starting line up, replacing the suspended Nat Butcher. Lindsay Collins still hasn’t recovered from a head knock and thus, hasn’t been named anywhere in the squad. Spencer Leniu will start in his place.

Analysis: In a somewhat surprising decision, Jonah Pezet has been dropped with Jason Ryles electing to keep Ron Volkman in the halves to partner Mitch Moses, who is set to return from Origin duty. Pezet isn’t going to be at the club next year, so much like Dylan Brown in 2025, Ryles has decided to leave out the Brisbane-bound Pezet. Araz Nanva is the other change for the Eels. Nanva will start at centre over Sean Russell. Will Penisini isn’t due back for at least two-three weeks while forwards Luca Moretti and Junior Paulo are being aimed for a Round 21 return.

Analysis: In a selection stunner, Jye Gray has been dropped, replaced in the No. 1 jersey by Matt Dufty. Gray is a casualty after Souths were thrashed by Penrith last weekend. “I reckon it’s a couple of factors,” Paul Crawley said on NRL 360 when asked what may be the thinking behind the move. “He wasn’t great last game. Styles make fights. Cody is out, Dufty is a bit slicker. Probably they might think they have to score more points against Newcastle.” Cody Walker will miss a match through suspension and replaced by Jayden Sullivan, who will partner Ashton Ward in the halves. Campbell Graham is back on deck and will start on a wing. Tallis Duncan has impressed in limited action in the centres and he’s been named to start there despite Graham’s return. Euan Aitken has been named in the second row. Cam Murray is going to attempt to back up from the Origin decider. Wayne Bennett has named his captain at lock forward. That pushes Lachie Hubner to the interchange bench.

Analysis: Haumole Olakau’atu has been named on the bench for NSW with his role in the decider unknown at this stage. Given that, and the four-day turnaround, the rampaging second rower should be right to play against North Queensland. That pushes Corey Waddell back to the pine. Tolu Koula is unlikely to play the Blues unless injury strikes. He has replaced Clayton Faulalo in the Manly backline. Faulolo suffered a hamstring injury last weekend and could spend a few weeks on the sideline.

Analysis: A potentially huge inclusion for the Cowboys is that of Tom Dearden. Named in jersey No. 23, Dearden is closing in on a long-awaited return from an ankle injury. He’ll replace Jaxon Purdue in the halves if right to go, meaning Purdue will start at centre instead of Zac Laybutt, who has been named there. The Cowboys’ Origin duo of Reuben Cotter and Jeremiah Nanai have been named to start against Manly. Murray Taulagi is on the six-man bench for Queensland but is in the squad as injury cover. He too has been named to start for the Cows.
