Team Tips: A loss to Fremantle means Luke Beveridge’s side still need one more win to be absolutely certain they’ll feature in the wildcard weekend. Aaron Naughton and Cody Weightman are listed as tests, despite both players being managed for the club’s trip west. There aren’t any other inclusions the Dogs will receive off the injury list, but you’d expect the duo’s replacements for last Friday night in Louis Emmett and Laitham Vandermeer would each be a fair chance of making way. Key forward Jordan Croft has had a very quiet last month, but you’d expect him to continue developing at senior level. In the VFL, emergency and four-gamer Luke Kennedy brought the pressure with 23 disposals and 11 tackles to push his case for a recall, while Harvey Gallagher and Lachie McNeil were also among Footscray’s best players.

Team Tips: North has confirmed that George Wardlaw is ready to return from a hamstring strain suffered last month after a “stellar block of strength and conditioning.” Whether they put Wardlaw straight back into the AFL side or bring them through the VFL is still to be determined. Luke McDonald (calf) and Callum Coleman-Jones (ankle) remain another week away. There weren’t too many passengers in their valiant loss to Hawthorn last Saturday in Tasmania, but after Tom Powell got through his return from injury in the reserves, there’s selection pressure building. Gun SSP pick-up Tom Blamires and small forward Zac Banch could be vulnerable, as could Wil Dawson if McDonald is fit. In the VFL over the weekend, Robert Hansen Jnr. had 26 disposals and a goal, while mid-season draftee Ollie Griffin yet again kicked three goals to further push for a senior debut.

Team Tips: Brisbane is breathing a sigh of relief after several injury concerns in last week’s heavy loss to Carlton. Keidean Coleman (concussion) will miss against Hawthorn, but Hugh McCluggage (calf), Ryan Lester (shoulder) and Logan Morris (corked thigh) will all be available for selection and Dayne Zorko (managed) is set to return. Meanwhile Darcy Gardiner (hamstring) is also set to be available to create some key selection calls for Chris Fagan and company amid questions on the reigning premiers’ defence. Eric Hipwood’s spot could be in jeopardy after the experiment of playing him in defence didn’t work with Oscar Allen back in the team, while Conor Mckenna is the other potential omission for Gardiner. In the reserves’ 10-goal loss to Carlton, 2024 mid-season draftee and one-gamer Luke Beecken had 25 disposals and 10 intercepts, making him a viable option in the back half to replace Coleman.

Team Tips: It was a case of ‘tick, next’ for the Hawks in Tasmania over the weekend, who were tested until the end by a brave North Melbourne outfit. That being said, it’s still going to be a very interesting week at selection for Sam Mitchell’s side. Peculiarly, four-gamer Ollie Greaves played just 22 per cent game time in Launceston in an early sign he’s on the fringe of the senior side. Debutant Aidan Schubert and Finn Maginness could be in a similar boat, such is the selection pressure at Dingley right now. All or any of Karl Amon, Mitch Lewis and Ned Reeves could return for the all-important prime-time clash with the reigning premiers, so there will almost certainly be unforced casualties. Emergency duo Sam Butler (24 disposals, three goals) and Max Ramsden (19 disposals, 20 hitouts, 10 marks, one goal) were prolific in the VFL side’s 31-point win over the Roos, while Max Beattie, Matt Hill and Calsher Dear also had strong games.

Team Tips: There will be at least one forced change for Steven King’s side after their well-fought Round 21 win over Gold Coast, with foxfooty.com.au revealing defender Blake Howes will miss at least a month with a fractured arm. It’s a frustrating blow for the defender, who has been a consistent performer in all 20 games this season. But the Dees could welcome back a few, with Daniel Turner (rib), Kade Chandler (hand) and Latrelle Pickett (concussion) to face fitness tests. Paddy Cross’ quiet form continued in an unforgiving forward role, and after playing just 49 per cent game time, could be an unforced casualty from the 23 that travelled to Carrara. Up forward in the VFL, three-gamer Luker Kentfield kicked a bag of five for the first time ever at state level in a strong display, and was aptly aided by father-son pick Kalani White who kicked a career-best four. Emergency Xavier Taylor kept busy with 24 disposals, while Xavier Lindsay, Ricky Mentha, Jack Henderson and Lukas Cooke were all there or thereabouts.

Team Tips: Despite essentially clinching the minor premiership last Friday night, it’s unlikely the Dockers will rest too many bodies in their travels to Victoria — especially against a threatening Melbourne outfit. However, the management of Hayden Young continues to be a week-by-week conversation as the club treads cautiously with his injury history. A similar weekly discussion revolves around who the club’s second ruck should be: Mason Cox, or Sean Darcy. The former played 62 per cent game time for seven disposals and 15 hitouts. He wasn’t overly impactful, but looks to be held in higher regard for their team’s structure and versatility. Darcy, on the other hand, had another ridiculous game for Peel Thunder in the reserves, this time accruing 26 disposals and 41 hitouts; an effort that could’ve been even bigger if he’d kicked straight with two behinds. And speaking of selection conundrums, there’s now talk around whether backup stopper Oscar McDonald keeps his spot in Justin Longmuir’s side over a healthy Brennan Cox, who missed again last weekend. Emergency Chris Scerri kicked two majors from 13 disposals and seven tackles, while Bailey Banfield continues to push his case for a senior game in 2026, collecting 25 disposals and six inside 50s. Forgotten forward Sam Sturt had 11 touches and kicked 1.2 in his long-awaited return from injury via the Thunder’s reserves outfit.

Team Tips: Sydney’s comeback win over St Kilda last Saturday came at a significant cost to its spine, with Will Edwards suffering a fractured fibula in the final quarter. But that wasn’t the extent of the damage, with invaluable forward-midfielder James Rowbottom sustaining a broken hand earlier in the game. Rowbottom has undergone surgery and is set to miss our weeks, meaning the hard nut could be back for finals. The likes of Corey Warner and Jesse Dattoli loom as potential replacements in the forward half after the pair were named among the emergencies last Saturday, while Caiden Cleary kicked 2.2 from 32 disposals and nine clearances in the VFL. Angus Sheldrick kicked a goal from 25 possessions after his omission two weeks ago. As for filling Edwards’ void — which looks large despite the youngster having only played 14 career games — experienced pair Lewis Melican and Joel Hamling are running around in the reserves waiting for a chance. The latter played forward in the reserves at the weekend. Otherwise, Justin McInerney (hamstring) could be as little as one to two weeks away from a return.

Team Tips: Several young Power players had quiet nights under lights at Adelaide Oval last Saturday, though Josh Carr’s ability to pull the trigger with unforced changes is very limited — so extensive is their injury list with key players. Jack Watkins has unfortunately been added to that list of casualties with a hamstring injury that will sideline the midfielder. Second-year Christian Moraes was very quiet against GWS with just four disposals from 67 per cent game time, while developing talls Harrison Ramm and Jack Whitlock were irregularly sighted. Additionally, there were very few performers for the Port Adelaide Magpies in their 70-point loss to Norwood in the SANFL over the weekend. Small forward and emergency Tom Anastasopoulos was wasteful in front of goal with three behinds from 15 disposals, while the omitted Brando Zerk-Thatcher had seven intercept possessions down back. The third and final emergency for the weekend’s game was Jacob Wehr, who had 21 disposals but has very much been in-and-out of Carr’s senior side this season.

Team Tips: Coming off a massive win over Collingwood, Geelong could also regain Patrick Dangerfield for Saturday’s meeting with Essendon. Dangerfield was kept out of the Pies clash as a precaution after jarring his hip against the Demons the week previous. Then there’s the conversation around Sam De Koning, which is an interesting one, given he was cleared to return after illness yet didn’t make the cut in the seniors. He played in the VFL at the weekend and kicked a goal from 19 disposals and three clearances. He’ll surely be in line for selection on Thursday night. Meanwhile in the reserves, Jack Bowes continues to kick the door down, recording 41 disposals, six clearances and 1.2 in the VFL Cats’ loss. He was the first emergency for the Collingwood game. Midfielder George Stevens was also busy around the footy, tallying 32 possessions, 12 tackles, 11 clearances and 1.1. Superstar forward Jeremy Cameron is still at least 1-3 weeks away with his shoulder injury.

Team Tips: Another heavy loss for the Bombers, and another injury to come from it. Youngster Angus Clarke will miss this week’s clash with the Cats due to concussion, but he also sustained a knee injury after an awkward landing. Dean Solomon could look to make a few changes ahead of the trip down to Geelong. Midfielder Jye Caldwell was curiously overlooked at selection last week and should be in the frame to return this Saturday. And while the VFL side didn’t play at the weekend, there are a host of familiar names currently on the outer, including Elijah Tsatas (34 disposals in the VFL match prior), Archie Perkins, Zak Johnson, Darcy Parish and Jade Gresham. Tom Edwards is also available for selection, as is Ben McKay, who was dropped again last week. Jordan Ridley and Sully Robey, who came out of the side last week due to injury, don’t yet have timelines for return.

Team Tips: Death, taxes and selection intrigue at West Lakes. After a whopping six changes for Sunday evening’s 12-goal over Essendon, it’s going to be fascinating to see how many more come to take on Richmond off a six-day break. Of the outs last week, Wayne Milera is the only certainty to not come back in as he recovers from a minor hamstring strain. Niggles to Sam Berry and James Peatling are at the very minor end, and should see them return — which is where the selection headaches begin. Debuting duo Oscar Ryan and Archie Ludowyke were both solid in their first game at senior level, with the former particularly damaging. In his 12th AFL game, fellow inclusion Billy Dowling was excellent with 18 disposals and three goals and will also be hard to drop. Mainstays Mark Keane, Callum Ah Chee and Brayden Cook all returned too and won’t be dropped… so where to from here? In-form key defender James Borlase was managed for the second half of the Marvel Stadium clash, and even if he’s all clear of anything more serious, would be worth resting against the Tigers. Nick Murray is on the fringe of the side and could be a straight swap, but it’s less clear who would come out for the likes of Berry and Peatling — or Rory Laird, who is an outside chance to return from an ankle injury. Zac Taylor has hit a quiet patch of form and could be vulnerable to keep in one of the younger types, though is highly valued as a role player. A left-field, but logical selection change too would be resting Lachie McAndrew; potentially for Reilly O’Brien who continues to dominate in the SANFL. His side lost to South Adelaide by three goals last Saturday, with the omitted Finnbar Maley kicking five goals.

Team Tips: Despite their first win in over two months, the Tigers won’t go into Saturday’s clash with Adelaide unchanged. Sam Cumming will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery after being sidelined again with a moderate grade syndesmosis injury. Meanwhile young defender Luke Trainor will serve a one-match suspension for gut-punching West Coast’s Jack Williams. Richmond will hope hybrid tall Noah Balta (toe, TBC) is healthy to make a return, but his timeline has been unclear since suffering his toe injury. Otherwise, the selection committee could change up the team balance with his replacement. Samson Ryan was serviceable in the ruck in his return to Adem Yze’s side and may keep his spot for the Crows game. Elsewhere, small forward Steely Green was cleared to return from concussion last week but wasn’t selected, instead picked in the emergencies. Judson Clarke, meanwhile, was the first emergency, suggesting he’s edging closer to an elusive AFL return after a two-year hiatus. But his chances weren’t helped by the fact the reserves side had a bye at the weekend, though if he does get his chance, it could come at Tyler Sonsie’s expense.

Team Tips: The Giants have officially put a line through Darcy Jones for the remainder of this season following his ACL injury late in the 2025 season. Jones has been medically cleared to play but the Giants have decided to prioritise setting up the the small forward for 2026. Meanwhile Toby Greene could return this weekend after missing the last fortnight with a quad injury but Brent Daniels (calf) and Jack Buckley (calf) remain sidelined. Adam Kingsley could yet make changes to the side that defeated Port, with Riley Hamilton (one effective kick in 75 per cent game time) quiet in that clash, while Jack Ough played a game-low 22 per cent of the match. Fringe ball-getter Toby McMullin continues to press for a spot from the reserves, finishing as the VFL side’s major ball-winner at the weekend with 23 disposals to go with six tackles. He was the side’s first emergency last Saturday, shaping as the next to be given a chance by Kingsley. Oskar Taylor had 18 possessions, while Jake Riccardi kicked 1.2 from 15 disposals and six marks in his return from an ankle injury. After Kieren Briggs returned to the senior side to ruck alongside Nick Madden, there aren’t any immediate injury returnees on the horizon.

Team Tips: Despite a third-straight competitive effort, it was a 10th consecutive loss for Damien Hardwick and company on Sunday. And from it came a ribs concern for key defender Sam Collins, who was sent to hospital for scans. Collins is listed as a test for Sunday’s Expansion Cup battle. If he can’t go, backman Caleb Graham has been a VFL mainstay if Hardwick wants to call on a tall; otherwise, he has plenty of other options in the reserves if he wants to tinker with the team balance. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan kicked 2.1 from 15 disposals and five marks as he continues to plot a way back into Hardwick’s lineup. Caleb Lewis, meanwhile, booted four goals from just eight touches. Then there’s the likes of Alex Davies (32 disposals, 12 tackles, nine clearances), Jarrod Witts (17 possessions, 38 hitouts, seven marks) and Sam Clohesy (27 disposals, five marks), who haven’t been able to find a way back into the seniors. The Suns have a short injury list, with Lachie Weller (hamstring) the only one in the frame to return before the season is over.

Team Tips: After dropping a game they would’ve thought they should’ve won, the Eagles are set to make a tweak or two ahead of a big home clash with Collingwood. One of those changes should be the return of co-captain Liam Baker, who spent another week on the sidelines due to calf tightness after serving his suspension. In the WAFL, midfielder Elijah Hewett kicked two goals from 23 disposals, while young half-back Josh Lindsay had 23 disposals. Ex-Collingwood midfielder Fin Macrae notched 33 disposals and eight inside-50s as he continues to press for a club debut, while youngster Lucca Grego had 28 touches in the win over South Fremantle. Jack Hutchinson (hamstring) could return as soon as this week, while Malakai Champion returned in the reserves from his hand issue.

Team Tips: Injuries are building up at Collingwood, particularly in defence. In the latest blow, Pat Lipinski is facing two to three weeks on the sidelines, while there’s a watch on Jordan De Goey after he failed to complete training with glute soreness. De Goey’s availability will be assessed following Thursday’s main training. Lipinski joins Jeremy Howe (arm), Harry Perryman (hamstring) and Bryden Maynard (knee/hamstring) on the sidelines and forces the Pies into at least three changes for their trip west. The club is holding out hope Howe can return for the finals after suffering a broken forearm, but he’ll still miss an extended period in what’s a massive defensive blow for a side already missing Darcy Moore and Maynard. In terms of replacements, youngster Sam Swadling is a near certainty to earn a senior reprieve after a big day in the VFL at the weekend, collecting 40 possessions with nine clearances and five tackles.
