THURSDAY AUGUST 13

Penrith Panthers vs. Sydney Roosters, 7.50pm @ CommBank Stadium

Last week’s Panthers team: 1. Jaxen Edgar 2. Thomas Jenkins 3. Paul Alamoti 4. Izack Tago 5. Brian To’o 18. Jack Cole 7. Nathan Cleary 8. Moses Leota 9. Freddy Lussick 10. Lindsay Smith 11. Isaiah Papali’i 12. Liam Martin 13. Isaah Yeo 14. Billy Scott 15. Scott Sorensen 16. Liam Henry 17. Billy Phillips 19. Blaize Talagi 21. Luron Patea

Team tips: The Panthers face their biggest test, taking on the hard-charging Roosters without their leader and captain, lock Isaah Yeo. But in a huge boost, Penrith is set to welcome back influential fullback Dylan Edwards, a move which would push incumbent Jaxen Edgar back to NSW Cup. Yeo is sidelined with a pectoral injury, meaning Lindsay Smith will shift to lock in his absence. Smith probably won’t play the full 80 minutes though, and usually it would be Mitch Kenny to fill in at lock. Kenny though is once again expected to unavailable following complications with his recovery from a serious leg injury, so look for either Billy Phillips or Isaiah Papali’i to spend time at lock. Meanwhile, centre Casey McLean faces another week on the sidelines with a hand injury. Luke Garner, who has been missing for the past month, is expected to return in the coming weeks but Penrith did not disclose to foxsports.com.au the reason for his absence.

Last week’s Roosters team: 1. Cody Ramsey 2. Billy Smith 3. Hugo Savala 4. Robert Toia 5. Mark Nawaqanitawase 6. Daly Cherry-Evans 7. Sam Walker 8. Naufahu Whyte 9. Reece Robson 10. Spencer Leniu 11. Salesi Foketi 12. Siua Wong 13. Victor Radley 14. Connor Watson 15. Lindsay Collins 16. Nat Butcher 17. Egan Butcher 18. Cody Ramsey 19. Tommy Talau 20. Rex Bassingthwaighte

Team tips: James Tedesco returns for the Tricolours as they continue a spirited run towards the NRL finals, a move which will push the in-form Cody Ramsey out of the starting side. The Roosters are still a couple of weeks away from welcoming back Daniel Tupou (shoulder) and Angus Crichton (foot), but otherwise field a side closely resembling the outfit that toppled the Bulldogs last weekend.

‘We may not see him again this year’ | 01:30

FRIDAY AUGUST 14

Manly Sea Eagles vs. Dolphins, 6pm @ 4 Pines Park

Last week’s Sea Eagles team: 1. Lehi Hopoate 2. Jason Saab 3. Tolutau Koula 4. Reuben Garrick 5. Blake Wilson 6. Joey Walsh 7. Jamal Fogarty 8. Taniela Paseka 9. Brandon Wakeham 16. Simione Laiafi 11. Haumole Olakau’atu 12. Corey Waddell 13. Jake Trbojevic 14. Jake Simpkin 15. Nathan Brown 17. Fletcher Baker 18. Jackson Shereb 19. Josh Feledy 21. Nicholas Lenaz

Team tips: Can Manly keep their faint finals hopes alive? A growing injury toll hasn’t helped the Sea Eagles in recent weeks, but they receive a huge boost with the return of Ben Trbojevic against the hard-charging Dolphins. ‘Burbo’ returns from concussion to resume his place in the No. 12 jersey, pushing Corey Waddell to the bench. Brother Tom is also a good chance of returning from his hamstring injury after missing last week’s game in Perth, which would push Lehi Hopoate back to the wing in place of Blake Wilson. Taniela Paseka is likely to miss the game with a suspected MCL injury, which could parachute Fletcher Baker into his starting prop position. “I don’t think it’s too good, but we’ll wait until we get a scan on it,” Kieran Foran said.

Last week’s Dolphins team: 1. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow 2. Jamayne Isaako 3. Jack Bostock 4. Herbie Farnworth 5. Selwyn Cobbo 6. Kodi Nikorima 7. Isaiya Katoa 8. Thomas Flegler 9. Jeremy Marshall-King 10. Francis Molo 11. Connelly Lemuelu 12. Kulikefu Finefeuiaki 13. Morgan Knowles 14. Kurt Donoghoe 15. Max Plath 16. Tom Gilbert 17. Felise Kaufusi 19. Brad Schneider 20. Brian Pouniu

Team tips: For the first time in what feels like a long time, the Dolphins are actually fit and firing ahead of the finals and are expected to be at full-strength for the Manly clash as a result.

Smith betting charge withdrawn | 00:54

Canterbury Bulldogs vs. South Sydney Rabbitohs, 8pm @ Accor Stadium

Last week’s Bulldogs team:1. Connor Tracey 2. Jacob Kiraz 3. Matt Burton 4. Enari Tuala 5. Jethro Rinakama 6. Stephen Crichton 7. Lachlan Galvin 8. Max King 9. Bailey Hayward 10. Leo Thompson 11. Viliame Kikau 12. Jacob Preston 13. Jaeman Salmon 14. Kurt Mann 15. Josh Curran 16. Harry Hayes 17. Sitili Tupouniua 19. Bronson Xerri 20. Jake Turpin

Team tips: Unfortunately it does not sound like there will be good news on injured second rower Sitili Tupouniua after he re-injured his hamstring in the loss to the Roosters. “I’m not sure how bad it is but he felt it in the same spot where he injured it about eight weeks ago,” Cameron Ciraldo said. “He’s pretty devastated because he was training really well.” Alekolasimi Jones will likely re-join the bench in his place.

Last week’s Rabbitohs team: 1. Matthew Dufty 2. Alex Johnston 3. Tallis Duncan 4. Jack Wighton 14. Jye Gray 6. Cody Walker 7. Ashton Ward 8. Tevita Tatola 9. Brandon Smith 10. Keaon Koloamatangi 11. David Fifita 12. Adam Elliott 13. Cameron Murray 15. Lachlan Hubner 16. Sean Keppie 17. Jamie Humphreys 18. Jayden Sullivan 19. Thomas Fletcher 20. Moala Graham-Taufa

Team tips: Winger Campbell Graham is a chance of returning from a minor calf strain, which would push Jye Gray back to the bench. “He’s got a bit of a strain. It’s not too serious but he’s not quite right,” Wayne Bennett said. Latrell Mitchell though is unlikely to be named with Bennett not committing to any potential timeline for the superstar centre’s comeback. “He doesn’t know and I don’t know (when he will return),” Bennett said. “There’s a good chance that may be the case (he won’t play again this year), it may not either.”

SATURDAY AUGUST 15

Cronulla Sharks vs. Canberra Raiders, 3pm @ Ocean Protect Stadium

Last week’s Sharks team: 1. William Kennedy 2. Sione Katoa 3. Jesse Ramien 4. Mawene Hiroti 5. Ronaldo Mulitalo 6. Braydon Trindall 7. Nicho Hynes 8. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. Blayke Brailey 10. Jesse Colquhoun 11. Briton Nikora 12. Teig Wilton 13. Cameron McInnes 14. Hohepa Puru 15. Billy Burns 16. Oregon Kaufusi 17. Thomas Hazelton 18. Michael Gabrael 19. Braden Hamlin-Uele

Team tips: Suddenly Cronulla’s depth in the outside backs is being tested, with Jesse Ramien facing a lengthy sideline stint after picking up a pectoral injury in the loss to the Dragons. Siosifa Talakai is an outside chance of returning from a biceps injury and could be a straight swap but otherwise Mawene Hiroti looms as the logical replacement if Talakai is not fit. Fortunately, KL Iro (concussion) should also be back and will walk into one of the starting centre spots regardless. Hiroti and Braydon Trindall both picked up knocks on Sunday but early indications are that both should be fine.

Last week’s Raiders team: 1. Kaeo Weekes 2. Jed Stuart 3. Simi Sasagi 4. Matthew Timoko 5. Xavier Savage 6. Ethan Strange 7. Ethan Sanders 8. Corey Horsburgh 14. Tom Starling 10. Joseph Tapine 11. Zac Hosking 12. Ata Mariota 13. Morgan Smithies 9. Owen Pattie 15. Joseph Roddy 16. Josh Papali’i 17. Daine Laurie 18. Savelio Tamale 19. Matt Nicholson

Team tips: The Raiders could look very different for this week’s game against the Sharks, with Ricky Stuart hinting he could make big changes with their season over. “I’ll play some young blokes that I want to look at for next year,” Stuart said after the loss to Newcastle. “I’ll also see how reserve grade is going with their position on the table. I don’t want to ruin their opportunity of making the finals.” One player in the firing line would have to be prop Corey Horsburgh after his brain explosion, which Stuart singled out in his post-game press conference. Simi Sasagi will also miss Saturday’s game, with Stuart revealing he should not be playing and only did on the weekend because he wanted to be there for the end of Josh Papalii’s NRL career. Stuart said Sasagi will return for Papalii’s final home game against Brisbane. It positions Mark Tuialii to make his NRL debut. Outside back Sione Finau could also come into contention. He has yet to make his Raiders debut since joining in the off-season from the Dragons.

Mal loves ‘bold’ new Bears jersey | 00:56

Parramatta Eels vs. North Queensland Cowboys, 5.30pm @ CommBank Stadium

Last week’s Eels team: 1. Isaiah Iongi 2. Brian Kelly 3. Viliami Penisini 4. Jordan Samrani 5. Josh Addo-Carr 6. Ronald Volkman 7. Mitchell Moses 8. Sam Tuivaiti 22. Ryley Smith 10. Luca Moretti 11. Jack Williams 12. Kitione Kautoga 13. Jack de Belin 9. Tallyn Da Silva 14. Saxon Pryke 15. Junior Paulo 16. Teancum Brown 19. Jezaiah Funa-Luta 19. Toni Mataele

Team tips: Another brave performance from the Eels last weekend but once again, they fell short. Fullback Isaiah Iongi suffered a knee injury and could be shut down for the rest of the season. Coach Jason Ryles said post-game that he’s “very confident” it’s not a serious injury. The likely replacement will be Joash Papalii, who wore the No. 1 and scored a try for the Eels’ NSW Cup side over the weekend. Sean Russell is due to return but given the Eels are out of finals contention and Russell is Perth Bears-bound, he’s no certainty to be picked even if fully fit.

Last week’s Cowboys team: 1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Braidon Burns 3. Zac Laybutt 4. Tomas Chester 5. Murray Taulagi 6. Jake Clifford 7. Jaxon Purdue 8. Griffin Neame 9. Soni Luke 10. Jason Taumalolo 11. Heilum Luki 12. Kai O’Donnell 13. Reuben Cotter 14. Ethan King 15. Thomas Mikaele 16. Matthew Lodge 17. Coen Hess 18. Sam McIntyre 20. John Bateman.

Team tips: Reed Mahoney is set to return from a concussion-enforced layoff in what will be a huge boost for the club. His replacement Soni Luke will revert back to the bench. It’s unlikely that Todd Payten will make any other changes following the Cowboys’ huge win last Thursday night. Jeremiah Nanai and Tom Dearden are set to return after the Round 25 bye.

Cowboys charge back into top eight | 03:00

Brisbane Broncos vs. New Zealand Warriors, 7.35pm @ Suncorp Stadium

Last week’s Broncos team: 1. Reece Walsh 2. Josiah Karapani 3. Kotoni Staggs 4. Deine Mariner 5. Grant Anderson 6. Ezra Mam 7. Thomas Duffy 8. Xavier Willison 9. Billy Walters 10. Payne Haas 11. Jaiyden Hunt 12. Jordan Riki 13. Patrick Carrigan 14. Ben Hunt 15. Va’a Semu 16. Ben Talty 17. Gehamat Shibasaki 18. Jack Gosiewski 19. Hayze Perham 20. Blake Mozer

Team tips: The Broncos’ attack was humming against the Dolphins but their porous defence let them down in the second half. Halfback Adam Reynolds is set to return after missing one game due to concussion protocols. There has been debate whether the Broncos are better off letting young half Tom Duffy steer the ship for the rest of the season, but it’s hard to envisage the club won’t let the retiring Reynolds have his swansong over the final month of the season. Brendan Piakura (concussion) is still out indefinitely.

Last week’s Warriors team: 1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 3. Ali Leiataua 4. Leka Halasima 5. Alofiana Khan-Pereira 6. Chanel Harris-Tavita 18. Luke Metcalf 8. James Fisher-Harris 9. Wayde Egan 10. Mitchell Barnett 11. Kurt Capewell 12. Jacob Laban 13. Erin Clark 14. Samuel Healey 15. Tanner Stowers-Smith 16. Morgan Gannon 17. Eddie Ieremia-Toeava 20. Taine Tuaupiki 23. Adam Pompey

Team tips: The Warriors had to turn to the exiled Luke Metcalf against the Panthers last Friday following the injury to Te Maire Martin and Metcalf didn’t miss a beat, starring in a the upset win. Metcalf and Chanel Harris-Tavita will be tasked with leading this team forward for the rest of the regular season at least given Martin is expected to be sidelined for two to four weeks with a hamstring injury according to coach Andrew Webster. Jackson Ford won’t be back until the finals but Demitric Vaimauga could return after missing a couple of games with a rib injury.

Warriors overcome Penrith in Auckland | 02:59

SUNDAY AUGUST 16

Newcastle Knights vs. Gold Coast Titans, 2pm @ McDonald Jones Stadium

Last week’s Knights team: 1. Kalyn Ponga 2. Dominic Young 3. Dane Gagai 18. Fletcher Hunt 5. Greg Marzhew 6. Fletcher Sharpe 7. Sandon Smith 10. Trey Mooney 9. Harrison Graham 15. Cody Hopwood 11. Jermaine McEwen 12. Francis Manuleleua 13. Mathew Croker 22. Diesel Hagan 8. Tyson Frizell 16. Lachlan Crouch 17. Thomas Cant 19. Brodie Jones 20. Toby Winter

Team tips: Injuries are starting to hit the Knights at the worst-possible time ahead of the finals, with Jacob Saifiti (hamstring) still likely a week away. Fortunately, hooker Phoenix Crossland and centre Bradman Best are expected to return from minor calf injuries this week. “They should be fine next week. It was touch and go for this week. They’ll come back into the side next week,” Justin Holbrook said. “Phoenix was close to playing and he was desperate to play, but the right thing was not too. We’ve got confidence in the guys filling in doing a great job.” Diesel Hagan would drop out with Harrison Graham moving to the bench while Best will be a simple swap for Fletcher Hunt.

Last week’s Titans team: 1. Keano Kini 2. Dean Ieremia 3. Jojo Fifita 20. Jaylan De Groot 5. Phillip Sami 6. Jayden Campbell 4. AJ Brimson 8. Moeaki Fotuaika 18. Sam Verrills 10. Tino Fa’asuamaleaui 12. Beau Fermor 15. Josh Patston 13. Chris Randall 7. Lachlan Ilias 9. Oliver Pascoe 11. Arama Hau 14. Kurtis Morrin 16. Klese Haas 17. Cooper Bai

Team tips: The Titans aren’t expected to make any major changes for this week’s game, although coach Josh Hannay may be forced to re-think his spine after coming under scrutiny for his mass changes. “I thought it was a bit strange from the coach to make the changes that he did when they probably would have only trained just the once,” Kevin Walters said on the NRL Debrief. “Their attack has been OK. They’ve scored enough points (this season) but they just didn’t seem to be working together.”

V’Landys backs Bears for success | 00:53

Wests Tigers vs. St George Illawarra Dragons, 4pm @ CommBank Stadium

Last week’s Tigers team, Round 22: 1. Jahream Bula 2. Junior Tupou 3. Sunia Turuva 4. Patrick Herbert 5. Faaletino Tavana 6. Jarome Luai 7. Javon Andrews 8. Terrell May 9. Apisai Koroisau 10. Fonua Pole 11. Samuela Fainu 12. Ethan Roberts 13. Alex Twal 14. Jared Haywood 15. Sione Fainu 16. Alex Seyfarth 17. Bunty Afoa 18. Starford To’a 19. Jock Madden 20. Heamasi Makasini

Team tips: All eyes will be on fullback Jahream Bula after Benji Marshall told reporters before the bye he could consider booking players in for early season-ending surgeries. “We’ve got guys playing busted who probably should have surgery but are still playing to fight for the club,” he said. Bula has been battling a shoulder issue for the past few months and would be the leading candidate to have an early mark. Otherwise, Heamasi Makasini had been struggling for form in recent weeks. On the one hand, Makasini will only learn from experience and so Marshall may see it fit to continue playing the young centre with the Tigers’ season over. If not, Starford To’a is an option to bring into the centres if he thinks Makasini would benefit from time in NSW Cup.

Last week’s Dragons team: 1. Clinton Gutherson 5. Tyrell Sloan 3. Moses Suli 4. Valentine Holmes 19. Mathew Feagai 6. Lyhkan King-Togia 7. Kyle Flanagan 8. Loko Jnr Pasifiki Tonga 14. Jacob Liddle 10. Emre Guler 11. Dylan Egan 12. Hamish Stewart 13. Ryan Couchman 9. Setu Tu 15. Damien Cook 16. Josh Kerr 17. Jacob Halangahu 18. Jacob Webster 2. Daniel Atkinson

Team tips: Don’t expect coach Dean Young to go away from a winning formula, but with Toby Couchman fit you can expect Emre Guler to drop back to the bench with Jacob Webster likely the man to make way.

Bye – Storm

Five-eighth Cameron Munster will be good to go after his match review committee downgraded his initial charge, although it sounds like there is no guarantee Harry Grant and Jahrome Hughes will return from their hamstring injuries for the Round 25 clash against Penrith. “I’m not quite sure of either of them. I don’t think they’d come back after the bye. I think it might be the week after that they might both come back,” Craig Bellamy said. “They’ll work as hard as they can to get back and do what they need to do, but I think it’d probably be the week after that (bye).”
