Luca Moretti also drops to the bench which gives Sam Tuivati an opportunity to start. While they won’t be playing in the NRL this week, the Eels have confirmed that duo Jake Tago and Jonah Pezet will make their returns to the field this weekend via the NSW Cup against the Knights. Meanwhile, the club also confirmed that rookie halfback Lincoln Fletcher (hamstring), Junior Paulo (knee) and Will Penisini (osteitis pubis) are all set to be available from Round 21 onwards. And Bailey Simonsson (ankle) will return in Round 23 at the earliest.

Bennett revealed that he was absent because he was attending a funeral. “He went to a funeral today. He’ll play,” Bennett said on Wednesday. While Fifita will play, Latrell Mitchell (calf) has been sidelined for another four weeks after suffering an injury setback earlier in the week. “Why would we react? The fact is that he tore a muscle in his calf and just get on with life,” Bennett added. “What we do here it’s part of the business getting injuries and setbacks unfortunately. I don’t think he’s devastated, but he’s disappointed.”

Late Mail: Cameron Ciraldo has been pressed on whether his decision to switch skipper Stephen Crichton into the halves is a long term play. Crichton wore the No.6 jersey and slotted the winning field goal against Manly in Round 16 with Matt Burton shifting into the centres. “It’s hard to say,” Ciraldo said on Thursday. Who knows what’s going to happen over the next few weeks? Origin still has to be played out, injuries happen, we’ll have guys coming back from injury. So there’s so much that can happen over the next couple of months,” Ciraldo said. “But we were really happy with what we saw last week, and hopefully we take a step forward with that this week.“ Meanwhile, Ciraldo says edge forward Jacob Preston won’t return from a broken arm against the Titans on Friday, but will be back after next week’s bye.
